The second bold section highlights Celemony's position that getting further DAW and plugin support will be easier due to the ARA 2 architecture. It is unclear as to whether any other DAW will get this feature. The first bold section about chord track capability seems to be implemented in Studio One 4. I added the bold text to emphasize these sections of the quote. One pairing may allow only simple sound editing, another perhaps even automatic tempo and harmony adjustments. What features then become available depends, of course, upon the specific plug-in and DAW in each case involved.
Fortunately, ARA 2 is considerably more flexible and can be integrated more easily into a multitude of DAWs as well as supported by a very wide variety of plug-ins. To profit from the new possibilities, both programs – the DAW and the plug-in – must support the ARA 2 specification.

The new ARA 2 specification allows, among other things, the simultaneous editing of multiple tracks, the transfer of chord track information between the DAW and the plug-in, seamless clip borders that make the manual setting of crossfades superfluous, Undo interlocking with the DAW, and much else besides. With ARA 2, the exchange of information between DAWs and plug-ins is even more comprehensive, which makes additional applications possible. However, look at this quote from Synchroarts:

Vocalign Pro 4 only works in Studio One 4 and Sonar Pro. At this point, Autotune only works in Studio One 3 or 4. Note the quote below for an example of this.Īutotune and Vocalign Pro 4 have announced support of ARA 2 with a qualifier. While I am partially speculating, this probably has a lot to do with how the plugin format (VST, AU, RTAS, etc.) implements ARA. Certainly not having to render audio is a major improvement over DAWs without ARA support.Ĭelemony has said that each DAW will implement ARA 2 with some different abilities and features, but specifics are few so far. What is true is that with ARA, editing with Melodyne is very fast. So we still don't know what the improvements and new features will look like in Logic's implementation of Melodyne. And there is no version of ARA 1 that works with AU plugins. But Celemony is still beta testing the 2.0 version that works with Logic. It has been released and it comes with ARA 2 support. To understand just how confusing the rollout is, look at Logic Pro 10.4.
However, to get Pro Tools support, RTAS would need to have a specific ARA implementation. With acceptance of ARA growing, at some point it may come to Pro Tools. These DAWs use either VST or AU format plugins. At this point, Studio One 3.x and 4, Logic Pro 10.4, Reaper, Cakewalk, Traction and Samplitude Pro have announced support of ARA. Both the version of the plugin and the DAW hosting the plugin needs to support ARA for it to work.ĪRA support is growing among various DAWs. ARA is an extension for plugin interfaces such as AU, VST etc.
